Paradox Yugen I
A Depth That Resists Capture
Paradox Yugen I belongs to the Paradox series, a body of contemporary abstract digital works that explores tension as a condition rather than an event. In this work, depth is not constructed through space or perspective. It remains embedded within the surface, held in suspension through soft disruption, partial emergence, and unresolved withdrawal.
The composition does not unfold toward a stable image. Forms gather and loosen within the same field, never fully consolidating into figure or structure. What appears is provisional. What recedes remains active. The result is not movement toward clarity, but a state of sustained hesitation in which the image resists full disclosure.
Colour remains restrained and nearly monochrome. Soft greys, muted blacks, and pale neutrals do not describe an atmosphere or setting. They function instead as a pressure within the image, allowing depth to be sensed without becoming fully legible. Light does not reveal. It hovers at the edge of appearance.
Paradox Yugen I Digital Artwork
The word Yugen refers to a depth that cannot be fully grasped — something sensed, but never entirely revealed. This idea matters to the structure of the work. Rather than offering a fixed centre or resolved form, the image sustains an ambiguous field in which visibility remains partial and meaning continues to withdraw.
This approach aligns with what I describe as a pedagogy of the gaze. Paradox Yugen I does not deliver itself immediately. It asks the viewer to remain with what cannot be fully captured, and to experience depth not as explanation, but as a condition that persists through attention.
Within a space, Paradox Yugen I is not conceived as a decorative image. It functions as a quiet but insistent presence—an artwork that deepens over time and continues to reorganize perception through its unresolved, suspended tension.
Paradox Yugen I is available both through this site and on Singulart, allowing the work to circulate while remaining grounded in the conceptual framework of the Paradox series.

From Paradox to Attraction
With Paradox Yugen I — Attraction Series, the internal condition of the abstract work begins to unfold outward. What was previously held as unresolved depth within the image now extends into a perceptible relation between figure, atmosphere, and distance.
This image is derived directly from Paradox Yugen I. The underlying material remains consistent: tonal restraint, suspended density, and partial disclosure are preserved. At the same time, the image allows the emergence of a figure and a more legible environment, without fully abandoning ambiguity.
The figure is not introduced as a narrative subject, but as a point of orientation. Through her presence, the depth associated with yūgen does not become fully visible. It becomes approachable, while still resisting complete resolution. The image draws the gaze through atmosphere and quiet balance, yet continues to withhold something essential.
This is not a move away from abstraction, but a displacement of it. The tension of the original work becomes relational rather than purely internal, allowing recognition to emerge without settling into certainty.
The Attraction Series extends this work into a perceptible field.
