Abstract digital artwork by Denis Leclerc – Digital Fragments 413, featuring organic-inspired forms printed on Hahnemühle metallic paper – part of the Digital Fragments series – contemporary Canadian digital art

Digital Fragments 413

Digital Fragments 413

I created Digital Fragments 413 in May 2025 as part of my ongoing Digital Fragments series—a space where I let ambiguity guide the process. I never know exactly what’s going to emerge, and that’s part of the thrill.

This one felt different. There was something blooming in it—maybe floral, maybe anatomical. I kept adding detail, slowly, carefully. That’s where the illusion starts to take shape: in the shadows, in the way the light touches the edges. It’s those tiny moments of texture that give the floating forms something to hold onto, something real.

I’m always trying to find that balance—between control and accident, suggestion and clarity. I hope this one invites you to look more than once.

Digital Fragments 412

Digital Fragments 412

In Digital Fragments 412, the boundary between abstraction and figuration becomes porous. A form seems to surface—almost human, almost sculptural—before slipping back into erosion and blur. This piece explores the notion of realistic abstraction, where digital textures suggest something tangible without ever fully resolving. Created through a hybrid manual-algorithmic process on iPad, the work invites slow viewing and open interpretation.

Abstract digital artwork by Denis Leclerc featuring sculptural blue and yellow forms on a soft atmospheric background, with a subtle diagonal line in the lower right corner.

Digital Fragments 407

Digital Fragments 407

Digital Fragments 407 emerged from a spontaneous interaction between gesture and colour. What began as curved forms quickly evolved as saturated blues and yellows asserted themselves, creating a sculptural rhythm against a soft, atmospheric background.

At first, a thin diagonal line near the bottom right was an accident. But rather than remove it, I chose to leave it—a quiet reminder of how chance and intention often coexist in abstract work. In many cases, the unexpected holds the energy that brings a composition to life.

A digital abstract artwork featuring blurred, stretched forms in deep reds, vibrant blues, and metallic tones. The composition suggests movement and transformation, with fluid textures and layered reflections creating a sense of depth and impermanence.

Digital Fragments 404

Digital Fragments 404

With Digital Fragments 404, Denis Leclerc continues his exploration of abstraction in the digital realm, where form and fluidity intersect to create a sense of both structure and dissolution. This piece plays with the tension between stability and impermanence, capturing a moment where shapes seem to emerge before dissolving into a shifting visual field.

Bold, saturated hues—deep reds, vibrant blues, and metallic tones—interact with blurred, stretched textures, evoking movement and transformation. Light and reflection distort the sense of depth, challenging the viewer’s perception of materiality and space.

Rooted in contemporary movements such as Post-Digital Abstraction, Neo-Expressionism, and the Digital Sublime, Digital Fragments 404 echoes the gestural energy of abstract expressionism while embracing the unique possibilities of digital media. The work shares affinities with Glitch Art in its exploration of visual instability, yet remains deeply connected to liminal art and digital impressionism, where the boundaries between the real and the intangible blur.

A short animated version of this piece, generated by AI, offers a glimpse into a mechanical interpretation of its fluidity and form. This transformation further explores the relationship between human creativity and algorithmic perception, questioning how artificial intelligence translates abstract expression into movement and structure.

More than an image, Digital Fragments 404 is an exploration of perception, memory, and transformation—a fleeting moment where abstraction hints at something familiar, only to slip away into the unknown.

Digital Fragments 401 — Golden Rules Series

Digital Fragments 401

Movement. Texture. Transformation. This piece from the Golden Rule Series pulses with shifting forms as if caught between stillness and motion. Light and shadow sculpt its fluidity, revealing depth in every fold and undulation.

The underlying gold backdrop adds a grounding element. A quiet contrast to the restless energy of the piece. The introduction of pinkish and silvery tones enhances the sensation of folds and undulations, giving the impression of a living, breathing material.

A continuation of my exploration of digital abstraction—where structure dissolves, and the image breathes.

Digital Fragments 359 — Quantum Field Series

Digital Fragments 359

Digital Fragments 359 is a unique iteration within the Quantum Field Series, which I regularly share on my Instagram platform. Through the Quantum Field Series, my primary aim is to visually delve into the intriguing interplay of different surfaces and how they can intricately interact and intersect with one another in captivating ways.

This digital artwork is using strokes of loaded brushes of light colours  to build up a background on which is built the main colour theme of monochromatic colours. The strokes are elongated, creating a sense of movement and fluidity in the piece. As the name suggests, this artwork is made up of fragments that come together to form a cohesive whole.

The choice of monochromatic colors adds depth and sophistication to the piece, while still allowing for subtle variations within the chosen color palette. This creates a harmonious balance between simplicity and complexity.

With the concept of relevancy lingering in the depths of my mind, I painted this composition. Art devoid of relevance is akin to engaging in a conversation with no listener present.  It becomes meaningless and loses its purpose. In today’s digital age, where information is constantly bombarding us from all angles, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and lost in the sea of noise.

Digital Fragments 264 is a captivating abstract composition that combines vibrant colors, layered tones, and strategic fragmentation to create a visually stimulating experience. The deliberate contrast and careful balance between elements of repetition and composition bring a sense of depth and atmospheric movement to the piece. With its overall grainy texture and meticulous color palette, Digital Fragments 264 engages viewers and highlights the beauty of abstract landscapes.
